THE FORESTS FALL SILENT

All over the world, our forests are falling silent. From Europe to South East Asia, songbirds are being illegally trapped and smuggled out of their natural habitats and into cages, kept as prized pets and competition singers. In collaboration with SEEKER, we look further into this issue in one of the world’s biggest songbird markets, Indonesia.

The Asian Songbird crisis represents one of the biggest illegal movements of wildlife in the world, but is actually very little known. Conservationists are beginning to use the term 'silent forests' to refer to the emptying of the forests. The removal of these birds has a disastrous effect on the ecosystems as a whole, affecting many other species of flora and fauna. It's not just happening in Asia, it’s happening in Europe and the US too. Organisations and individuals worldwide are working tirelessly to turn the tide on this trade.
