In collaboration with SEEKER and Ocean Mind, this film follows the story of the STS-50 one of the most notorious illegal fishing vessels in recent history.
It’s estimated that nearly 1 in every 5 fish caught today is sourced from illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing practices somewhere in the world. Not only are these practices damaging to fish populations as a whole, and their fragile underwater ecosystems, but many of these illegal vessels use forced labour, with some workers enslaved on ships for years at a time. We spoke to Bradley Soule, Director of Intelligence at Ocean Mind to find out how they’re trying to combat illegal fishing practices through the use of sophisticated AI models and satellite data.
