Do prosthetic limbs always have to be a substitute for an existing body part, or can we augment additional limbs and expand our body’s capabilities?
Designer Dani Clode and a team of neuroscientists at The University of Cambridge are re-imagining how we think about and use prosthetic limbs, with the help of a 3-D printed thumb controlled by your toes. This research is helping to shine a light on how the brain responds and adapts to augmented body parts, in the hope of improving the use of prosthetics in the future.
